2014 Mt Lofty Marathon

Looking for details on the 2014 Mt Lofty Marathon, the final round of the 2014 InterWinter series? Don’t worry, it’s all here – we’re just re-using most of it from 2013.

The 2014 event will follow most of the same format as was run in 2013 – we’ve made a few small tweaks, but for the most part the event remains the same.

Entry is still available via EntryZone at http://www.entryzone.com.au/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=61&products_id=449 - $30 if you pre-enter, or $40 if you want to wait an enter on the day.  Riders who pre-enter will go in to the draw to win a Fly6 camera.

For 2014 we’ve found a way to merge the two feed zones which were previously separated in to a single feed station, so any supplies you want to use can be available as you pass the same point in both directions.  That means in 2014 there’s no need to pre-plan leaving different supplies at two different points.

Parking is again being provided by the Redesdale CFA – we’re asking for a gold coin donation to support them and as a thanks for the land use being donated to enable the event to run.

Winter 2014 Dirt Crits Schedule

To help people better plan their evenings, below is a schedule of when we’re running Dirt Crits for the next few weeks.  As is fairly well know, because of the numbers we’re seeing recently, and knowing that people tend to go in to hiding over Winter when the weather gets colder, we’ve had to make a decision to cut back from running Dirt Crits every week, to mostly every second week.  We hope that by doing this it means that rather than getting a few people every week, we get larger fields on the few weeks racing does run, making things more fun for everyone.

Races will run on the days listed below, but, if the weather is poor on that night it may be cancelled and moved to the following week, in which case an announcement will be placed on the club Facebook page.

Thursday May 15
Thursday June 5
Thursday June 19

Schedules for July and August will be announced in late June, but expect it likely to be the first and third Thursday of each month until October.

Registration will continue to take place at 6:00pm for a 6:30pm start.  You’ll need front and rear lights and an MTBA license, and entry is $15 for new riders.  If you do not have an MTBA license, contact us.

How to find us at Dirt Crits

We realise that it can sometimes be difficult to find your way around Westgate Park if you’ve never attended one of our events before, so this helpful map should allow you to make your way to race registration.

Alternatively if you enter via the South side of the park, once you see Orange course arrows, follow them and you’ll eventually find your way to the end of the course, which at its longest configuration will rarely take more than 12 minutes for a full lap.Location Map

MLM Rider Race Kit

A document containing almost everything you need to know about getting to and racing in the 2013 Mt Lofty Marathon is now available, and can be found at http://www.clubfgp.com.au/interwinter/2013/riderracekit.pdf

You are expected to have read and understood everything in the race kit – please don’t turn up and tell us “oh, I didn’t know about the violent and sociopathic Kangaroos*, how was I to know?”

* = See Race Kit for explanation.

Mt Lofty Marathon event start times

There’s been a question or two about the start times for grades at this years event.

The short answer to this is we need entrants to assume their start time is 10:30. Registration will be closed at the latest by 10am, and you will be required to be there for the 10am briefing.

Those of you who raced last year will recall that C grade finished earlier than we would have liked, so had a long delay until presentations.  In considering this, both B grade and C grade will start slightly later.  The aim is to reduce the down-time between getting off the bike and presentations.

Actual start times will be published on the day.

Dirt Crits report and results – 4/7/13

Thanks to the small field of 13 riders who either didn’t look at the radar or decided to brave what others thought might have been coming – the rain certainly held off plenty long enough for everyone to get a good race in, on the same course as the previous week, though a lap less to be cautious of what weather might have come.

Also to be thanked is everyone who stuck around to pack up the course, making life easier.

2013 Mt Lofty Marathon

Round 3 of the 2013 InterWinter series is hosted by Full Gas Pedallers around the trails at Redesdale.

The format will be a mini marathon of various lengths for different grades.

  • A Grade – 3 laps, 58km
  • B Grade – 2 laps, 41km
  • C Grade – 1 lap, 24km
  • Womens race – 1 lap, 24km

The course will essentially be the same as last year, following the principle “easy to ride, but hard to ride fast”, the trail has a little something for everyone.

Situated 90 minutes north of Melbourne, the trails at Redesdale are typically very dry and provide the perfect location for a mid winter ride.

Pre entry is strongly recommended.

$30 via www.entryzone.com.au will allow ClubFGP to assign you a transponder. There are a limited amount of transponders available and numbers will be capped to 200 – the previous round at Castlemaine attracted over 200 riders. This is a limited event – get in early.

Entry on the day may also be possible for $35 if places remain. A current MTBA license or day license is required of all participants.

Parking is on private land, a gold coin donation to the local CFA is requested.

Further information is on the Club FGP Facebook page http://on.fb.me/clubfgp

Hope to see you all there on Sunday, 14th July at Mt Lofty Nature Reserve, Redesdale.
